Design Approach
Digby Alston Design creates thoughtful gardens that respond to the architecture, the landscape and the people who live there. Drawing on experience gained in the United Kingdom and Europe, including extensive work in Mediterranean landscapes, I create gardens that are both beautiful and well suited to our local climate.
Every landscape has its own character.
Whether it's a new home, an established garden or a country property, every successful garden begins with understanding the site , the people who will live in it and the climate in which it will grow.

I've always loved plants, pets and gardens.
When I'm not working you'll usually find me in my own garden, propagating plants, rearranging beds, experimenting with new ideas or tending the veggie patch. Gardening isn't just my job, it's what I genuinely enjoy, and that's something I try to bring to every project.
Working in my own garden reminds me that good gardens are never finished. They grow, change and evolve over time, and that's something I always consider when designing for clients.
My experience has taken me from working in the United Kingdom and Europe to designing gardens throughout Geelong, the Surf Coast and Western Victoria. Time spent working with Mediterranean planting and landscapes has strongly influenced my approach, helping me create gardens that are resilient, timeless and well suited to Victoria's Mediterranean climate
Along the way I've worked on everything from compact suburban gardens to large rural landscapes and commercial spaces, each one teaching me something new about designing for people and place.
I have formal qualifications in landscape design and continue to learn through hands-on experience, travel and a lifelong passion for plants.
